Applications of the Key Factor

The higher the level of success you want to achieve, the more important the existence of the KEY FACTOR

Who does the knowledge and application of the Key Factor benefit ?

Let’s look at the players in the industry and how the implementation of the KEY FACTOR, or lack thereof, can affect them:

Buyers, or End Users, can increase their odds of success greatly by working only with those mares, or offspring, that possess the Key Factor.

The data shows that horses with the KEY FACTOR significantly outperform those lacking the KEY FACTOR.

As we all know, it’s very difficult to sustain success in the thoroughbred breeding and racing industry. But we now have a tool that can increase our odds of success substantially.

Breeders need to know which mares possess the KEY FACTOR before buying or breeding one, for the following reasons:

Breeders will be at a disadvantage when selling the resulting offspring if it doesn’t possess the KEY FACTOR. As stated earlier, potential buyers will give less consideration, if any, to those horses without the KEY FACTOR.

Breeding runners without the KEY FACTOR most likely will give them little chance of attaining blacktype status, thus there will be no improvement with the mare herself.

If the breeder is breeding to race it also makes little sense to breed potential runners without the KEY FACTOR as their chances of success on the racetrack are equally slim, again doing nothing to help the bottom line, or the mare herself.

Breeders could be at a GREAT disadvantage when trying to book a mare without the KEY FACTOR. If stallion managers evolve to where they want only mares to their stallion that possess the KEY FACTOR, then it could become very difficult to book one’s mare to the stallion of their choice.

There are a number of important reasons for any stallion manager to know whether they are dealing with mares that will pass on the KEY FACTOR.

A stallion’s success is measured by the percentage of elite runners and stakes winners he produces. Producing a high percentage of offspring with the KEY FACTOR will give that sire the greatest chance of accomplishing just that.

Any stallion manager that is not fully aware of whether a mare has the KEY FACTOR, will be putting their sire at a disadvantage. In time, most managers will try to accept only mares that have the KEY FACTOR, thus those without the KEY FACTOR will go to those sires managed by those who are not aware of whether it exists, thus dragging their sire down.

Lastly, just as important is the salability of the foal. Buyers with access to the KEY FACTOR information, in time, will be giving very little, if any, consideration to purchasing a potential runner without the KEY FACTOR. If a stallion is producing a large number of sale horses without the KEY FACTOR then that sire’s average sale’s price will be impacted greatly, thus reducing his potential stud fee.

Pinhookers’ main purpose in buying a weanling or yearling is to resell at a later date for profit. But if the offspring being bought for resell lacks the KEY FACTOR in its pedigree, then the market for resell is eventually going to be very small.

A buying pattern is already becoming apparent where buyers are only looking for those horses that have the KEY FACTOR, and avoiding those without it. By doing so they realize they have a much greater chance of success.

Bloodstock agents represent clients for a myriad of reasons, but buying bloodstock for their client is a big part of it.

An agent’s success and reputation depends on the overall quality and success of their purchases. Purchasing horses without the KEY FACTOR, as opposed to eliminating them from consideration, will negatively impact an agent’s overall success rate.

Until now those ‘without’ and those ‘with’ have been one group. We now can separate those two and increase the odds of success.

Also, as the KEY FACTOR information becomes available to everyone, those clients will eventually also know if they were bought a horse that had the KEY FACTOR, or not.

The greater the level of success you are trying to attain, the more important the KEY FACTOR is to your breeding/racing operation. Regardless of whether it involves the success of a runner, the success of a mare, or the success of a stallion, if your goal is to breed champions then the KEY FACTOR is paramount.
